Thought for the day

Last night I finished reading "Untapped: The Scramble for Africa's Oil", and the final sentence of the epilogue has really stood out in my mind. According to John Ghazvinian, author of the book, it is an African proverb, but, whatever its origins, I think it's very thought-provoking and pretty hard to refute:

"If today we become soldiers and fight, it is so tomorrow our children will have the peace of mind to become doctors and engineers and politicians, so that their children, in turn, will have the luxury to become writers and dancers and architects."
