A little lost

After leaving Nazareth, we planned to continue onward, according to our map, into Jerusalem. We drove through some beautiful farmland areas.
What we didn't realize until we pulled up to a large gate in the road was that our map was seriously outdated. The highway to Jerusalem no longer exists and in its place is the West Bank, not exactly a place we wanted to visit. The West Bank is a landlocked area on the west bank of the Jordan River that shares borders on three sides with Israel and one border with Jordan. Even though the West Bank covers quite a large area, only certain sections are blocked off and considered dangerous. The land has been heavily disputed between Israel and Palestine and is to be avoided by tourists.
That being said, please don't think we were in any danger in our driving; thanks to the large gate in the road and several warning signs, we stayed outside the West Bank the entire time. And while there's nothing funny about the situation in and the history of the West Bank, our particular situation of having to make a huge detour to get to Jerusalem was the cause of several laughs at the time. I mean, what else could we do with the sun setting, the rain falling and a huge detour ahead of us!?
