Via Dolorosa

The Via Dolorosa follows the final hours of Jesus' life on Earth. There are fourteen Stations of the Cross along the way. The first two stations - where Jesus is condemned to death and then receives the cross - are now within a school, so they cannot be visited on a regular basis. The third station - where Jesus falls the first time - is on a street corner in the Muslim Quarter of the city, just under this street sign.
The fourth station is where Jesus meets his mother, Mary, along the way.
The fifth station is where Simon of Cyrene is given the cross to carry for Jesus.
The sixth station is where a girl called Veronica wipes Jesus' face with her veil.
The seventh station is where Jesus falls a second time.
The eighth station is where Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem.
The ninth station is where Jesus falls for a third time.
The last five stations are located within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (see next post), but mark the places where Jesus was stripped of his garments, where Jesus was nailed to the cross, where Jesus died on the cross, where Jesus' body was removed from the cross and where Jesus was laid in the tomb and covered with incense.

It was powerful to walk the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem and visit the sites where historians and religious leaders believe the events of the crucifixion actually took place.
