Less than twelve hours after returning to Cairo from Kenya, I hopped on another plane to Vienna, Austria, to attend the International Meeting on Emerging Disease and Surveillance (IMED). IMED is a conference that takes place every two years and is sponsored by the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMED). This year it is taking place in Vienna and over 600 participants from more than 65 countries will attend. I'm really excited just to be in Vienna but also looking forward to some of the presentations and sessions of the conference!

I'm a southern girl with a little threadbare gypsy soul and a heart for social justice and equality, particularly health, housing and education. I currently live in Cairo, Egypt, where I work in infectious disease research, surveillance, outbreak investigation and capacity building in the region.
